I've lived in this building since 2018. They pulled a fast one on me when I moved into a different unit in the building after breaking up with my bf that I lived with. I applied for a tax credit unit, the process took over a month and at the time of my request, they only had one unit available, which happened to be right around the corner on the same floor as my ex. I wasn't super thrilled on the idea of living so close to him, obviously. They took advantage of that when another unit opened up on the second floor, acting like they were doing me a kindness by getting me a unit further away. The reality is that the tenant was still in the process of moving out, and so I was not able to even see the unit before moving in. They knew I would jump at this opportunity in my desperation to get out of the unit I was sharing with my ex/not move to the one right next to him. It should be said that I had previously made several noise complaints about the upstairs neighbor in the previous unit, to the point where (because they wouldn't or supposedly couldn't do anything about the excessive noise) they told me I should just call the cops, which is pretty ridiculous to me since they are the property managers and therefore should be the ones taking care of such issues. Anyway, the new unit is probably the worst apartment I have ever lived in. No, it definitely is. I learned very quickly that:1) I was not going to have any kind of natural light coming into my unit for the next year, as all tax credit units apparently face the alley, which is extremely troubling as someone who suffers from depression. Poor people don't deserve sunshine, I guess.2) THE NOISE. Oh my god. Whether it be the laundry room directly below this unit, the building dumpsters below my bedroom being slammed around while being emptied by a truck at 5AM several times a week, or the homeless man that screams outside my window daily and at all hours, or people throwing their trash out at all hours (trash room door conveniently located directly outside my front door, which is heavy and slams every time it is opened) I literally cannot sleep without earplugs, but even with them, I can feel the vibrations from the heavy dumpsters being emptied or the trash door slamming. I'm sure they were aware of the level of noise in this apartment as previous tenants had to have complained, and I feel like they purposefully gave me a crappy unit because they didn't like the amount of noise complaints received by me previously, as well as knowing I was in a tight spot and in a hurry to get out of my previous unit. I feel 100% taken advantage of, and now I'm stuck in this horrible apartment because I can't afford to break my lease.Oh also, I came home from work one night around 11pm to find a homeless person charging their phone directly outside my front door in the hallway. I wrote an email the the "Community manager" about this and never got a response.Altogether, the building isn't the worst but is most definitely not the best. My specific unit, I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I guess that's my punishment for making noise complaints? Either way, I will 100% not be renewing and will be letting friends/family know of my experience here. I'm sure I will also experience some sort of repercussions/retaliation upon move out for posting this review, I had previously written one and taken it down, but I see all these five star reviews (they offer a "chance to win $500" for reviews) and I feel they are deceiving. Potential tenants should know that they *might* have a good experience, so long as they pay for a non tax credit unit and on time, and don't upset the leasing staff. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the maintainence staff is absolutely lovely. They are kind, polite, prompt, and actually care about tenant issues and getting them resolved quickly.
