TL;DR: don't come to this apartment, even if it seems cheap and liveable. Management here do not genuinely care about residents, and they are over-charging everything to keep the apartment barely functioning. 1 star is only for the location, as it is within the university city, and has accessible markets and foods. The charging is extremely absurd, there are many hidden charges that they will not tell you honestly when you visit the apartment or ask the management. They told me that the monthly utilities will be around $130 per month, but in my one-year rental, I received over $200 monthly utilities nearly every month and even $300 for 2-3 months. They will tell you that this is because the utility fee is based on the average utility usage of the whole building, but that can never explain the difference between 130 and 300! When the (unclear) monthly utility bills come out, you have no choice but to pay it. Complaining to the management does not make any difference. That's just a small example of the difference between how they advertised the apartment and what you will experience in this apartment. My monthly rent is $1575, but every month after adding on the utilities, the rent can jump to over $1800, even close to $1900. If you live here, you would think you only need to pay around $1700, but you will end up paying over $100 more every month. Just think about wherever else good apartments you can live in with $1800+. Also when I move out, they charged me $475, including $155 cleaning fee and $320 damage fee. I am always a clean person and I keep my room tidy, I cannot think of a damage that costs over $300. Don't ever dream of getting your $500 deposit back because they will use many different fancy "fees" to deduct the deposit that should be returned to you. A BIG DISASTER is the fire alarm here, as they can ring in any unexpected time, and the loudness can disrupt everything, my ears are punctured when the alarm rings. The fire alarm even went on 5 times in a week, including one time at 1AM! That was during an exam week! I have no words to say about this apartment's old facilities and poor management. There are indeed not many cost-effective apartments in university city, but this apartment really does not deserve a try.
