The building itself is nice. The staff is friendly, the apartments are decent, the building itself is kept fairly clean. I didn't have any pest problems, and the few maintenance requests I did put in were attended to quickly. The rent is higher than is truly justifiable, and the utilities will gouge you for cash, but that's just a reality in University City.What was truly egregious was what happened on the way out. I left my apartment in decent shape, cleaned to the best of my ability and with practically no damage. Paint was chipping on the inside of the sink, but that happened gradually over time with running water due to the poor quality of the paint job, and had nothing to do with my use. Late in the lease, while I was away for several weeks, mold began to grow behind the wall in the closet due to a leaking pipe behind the wall (again, clearly not my doing). I was promised that I would not be held financially responsible for any damage that was not my fault, but I ended up getting hit with a $200 repainting fee in addition to the $85 full clean. When I asked for evidence for why I should pay for the repainting, they supplied pictures of the sink, the moldy closet, and numerous small smudges and discolorations that were so minor that I honestly hadn't noticed them -- they could easily have been there before I arrived, and probably were, seeing as I had almost no furniture to scuff the walls.When I pointed this out to the folks in corporate, they told me that they had already paid for the repaint, but they made no effort to dispute whether I was responsible. In essence, I was charged hundreds of dollars because they "needed a repaint", not because I had caused that need myself. If you decide to move here, make sure you are thorough in reporting "damage" to the apartment on move in. I would recommend a microscope.
