My wife and I have been at Hillmeade for about a year and a half...maybe a little longer. When first searching for something in the Bellevue area, we kept returning to Hillmeade because the setting is beautiful and from the outside everything looks wonderful. We decided to proceed and went with a 3 bedroom place and we love the layout and we have just enough room for the two or us and some occasional guests. But as our time began to move forward, we started with minor issues...leaky faucets, an air unit that just stopped cooling (actually our first week there but it did get replaced), crumbling wallboard in bathrooms, etc. We did as we were instructed and submitted service requests but it was always for the same things over and over. The leaky faucets in the master bath were finally addressed and part of the wall behind them had to be taken out and guess what was found? Mold and rotting boards. The man doing the repair got as much out as he could and then sealed it up, replacing the tile with a different color tile, but we were told it could be "painted" to match the other. Then we were told it couldn't be painted and we would have to live with 2 different colored tiles in the same tub/shower area of the master bath. Water had also begun to leak around the base of the tub and into the wall area. This was addressed but only to slap some more plaster (or something) over it to cover it up. But, still loving the area, we made it through that first year and renewed our lease. Then, renovation was done on the apartment below us and we suddenly had a crack in the wall over the kitchen door and a space between that part of the floor and the baseboard (as though a support wall below had been moved). And our refrigerator/freezer started to leak inside (from the freezer) and the bottom of the refrigerator would have 2-3 inches of water in the plastic bins at the bottom. A service request was submitted and the drain for the freezer section has been unstopped twice because it continues to freeze up (there in not a temp control in the freezer). I even unstopped it one myself between the 2 service requests. And this morning, we have water again and my wife was stopping by the office to let them know. But now something new we spotted last week....in the hallway ceiling....my guess is we now have a "growing" black spot that seems to be the start of some black mold. What next?? I know the Hillmeade maintenance staff has their hands full but in dealing with them (and the staff has changed often in the past year and a half), it seems they really want to "fix" things but their hands are tied so things are just "patched" instead of being really "fixed". Such as our security gate for our "gated community" that has never worked. (but I will say that a new gate was just installed but isn't working yet...so time will tell). Parking is still a nightmare and the residents were emailed with permission to do our own calling to have cars towed that are parked in the wrong places, especially the spaces we pay for to reserve our spot. (I'm sure this will make for great neighborly relations...this should be handled by management). So let me sum it up because I did get a bit long here. We still love the setting of Hillmeade and we have great neighbors. Yes we do hear an occasional noise from above or below us but that's to be expected most of the time in apartment living. I know things will break, but when you question them or the "patching" and are told (such as the different colored tiles) "that's the reason people rent instead of buying"...(what does that have to do with not replacing removed times with the same color tiles?). The newly renovated apartments look great and we would love one of those, the same size we have now, but the prices also went up and the beautiful setting of Hillmeade just isn't enough for us to pay more than we are paying now. Do we want to move? Not necessarily but I'm afraid when lease renewal time comes around, we will have to move on...and honestly, I wouldn't wish moving on my worst enemy.
