This apartment is rated at 2.7 stars for a reason. While the apartment itself is ok, management is absolutely terrible, as is the parent company, AIR Communities. I had the absolute displeasure of taking this apartment to Small Claims court and won, which tells you just how much they think they are above the law since they were so confident that they would win just for them to lose. The apartment charged and stole a very large portion of our security deposit with no evidence of injury to the apartment beyond the normal wear and tear (they cannot charge you for normal wear and tear which is the normal degradation that happens over time and would be found in all living spaces), no photos, no itemized invoice, etc. We had even asked them what we could do to receive our security deposit back and was told to clean the oven and behind the oven and fridge and to paint the apartment. The maintenance manager, Andrew (who was the only kind and communicative person from the apartment) came and looked behind our fridge and oven and in our oven and approved the cleanliness. We were given paint by the maintenance team to ensure that the colors matched. We took before and after photos of the painting and compared them to photos of the apartment when we had moved in, and it actually looked better than when we had moved in. It was because we had all of our photo and video evidence and because the apartment refused to abide by CA laws (I.e. they refused to provide us with an itemized invoice even though we asked both the apartment and AIR Communities) that they lost in court. However, that wasn't even the end of the story. Despite the judge ruling in favor of us receiving our full security deposit back, both Laurel Crossings and AIR Communities REFUSED to send us back our full deposit and abide by the ruling. It took an entire year to settle this and us informing them that if they continued to refuse to send us our entire deposit back, then we would take them to court again. When we mentioned taking them to court again, they returned the remainder of our deposit without another word or even an apology. I have lived in 4 different apartments now, and this one is by far the worst one. Do NOT rent from here unless you want to engage in a year long court battle with them after you move out or lose money. In addition to that, scheduling our preinspection move out showed the lack of communication within the management team.
