The reviews of this place really speak for themselves. Where do I begin? I have never in my life lived in an apartment complex with more issues than the Malibu Canyon Apartments. First off, after a year of living there, I completed my 12 month lease with them and switched to a month to month. I stayed because one of their employees, Jen, informed me that the month to month rate would be $2,626. Upon the date that rent was due, the total was $3,057. I had to physically walk into the leasing office to address this issue because no one was responding to my email/calls. Luis Rodriguez, the manager, informed me that it was a "clerical error" on Jen's part, and that I would have to pay the $3,057... which is $400 more than I was anticipating to pay monthly. They took 0 accountability for their employees mistake. Secondly, and most importantly, this property has an huge issue with maintenance entering homes without warning. On 3 separate occasions, they had entered my home without asking. Once, I was home and did not get to the door quick enough to answer, so the maintenance man welcomed himself in without consent. This prompted me to get security cameras just in case it happened again... SURPRISE! It did. I was in the shower when an older man entered my home, knocked on my bathroom door while I was actively naked and in the shower, and proceeded to wait outside of the door until I exited the bathroom. I am a 23 year old woman, I live alone, and I felt super violated and uncomfortable. (I've attached a screenshot from the security clip for reference.) I emailed management about this issue, but I received no response. I had no intention of leaving them a review, but I have been moved out for 3 weeks now, and they're now asking for an additional $130 on top of keeping my $1,000 deposit. The itemized statement is an absolute joke, including the $520 paint fee upon moving out. It is in your best interest to not live at this location. (Update: the "I will look into this for you" comment left below by Susan is not true, and is simply a ploy to make it seem like this place cares about the experiences of their tenants. I have not received any email/phone call/text in regards to this review. These people do not care, take from that what you will.)
