Updated 11/5/12 We've gotten new management again (shocker)! My family and I have decided to stay here ONLY because its what we call home & most of the apartments in OB & Point Loma have terrible reviews as well. The only good thing that has happened is that Harbor Patrol has been keeping this place quiet ! I feel much safer knowing they're here. Other than that , its the same. Charging high way robbery for rent for normal people while Section 8 residents pay hardly nothing. Laundry mats are cleaner but dog hair is still embedded in the washers. This place is beautiful honesty but I wish they would stop treating the great tenants like crap. ____________ I've just noticed that Yelp filtered my review posted on 2/19/2012 & I am beyond ticked off. First I'm ripped off every month & now I can't even have my voice heard on this website? Now I'm posting this review again. I've modified my review in hopes it will not get filtered again. UPDATED 4/15/2012 The parking situation has taken a turn for the worse. In addition to an high rent you have to pay these stupid fees for parking. Now neighbors are butting heads because of Mariners Cove regime. I know what they're doing though. They're trying to get all the troublesome people who can barely afford to live here out so they can make it a better place. Is that a bad thing? No. But adding on ridiculous fees? Yes. My advice is to evict the people who are causing trouble instead of making the rest of loyal tenants pay these ridiculous fees. On that note, the gate is once again broken! _______ I've lived in Mariners Cove for all my life. I didn't even realize my home of almost two decades had become a hot spot for illicit activities. The front pool is the nicest pool because it's right in the back on the leasing office. If anything, avoid the back pool because the chlorine is overpowering. The park setting was amazing until it accepted dogs. Hardly ANY of the tenants pick up the dog poop and they are bold enough to do it in front of your house and not care. Trust me, that poop will stay there until landscaping comes along. Now hoodlums run around this place because its severely unguarded. Most of them don't live here. They come here to do all their "dirt" such as dealing/using drugs, causing ruckus, fighting, and stealing. Some neighbors had to tell me about knife fights and police raids which I wasn't even aware about! There are also unsupervised children who play outside and always dart out into the street. I cannot tell you about how many times they've changed management. It was smooth sailing until about late 2007 and after that new landscaping companies and management have changed policies and upped the price on rent and now charge for parking! Today you could have a plant on your porch/balcony and the next day they want to throw anything in plain sight in a garbage can. The gated community aspect is one of the most humorous parts about this place. The front gate by the leasing office is locked open until sundown which is good for mailmen & pizza guys but not for the people who loiter around here to use all the amenities we pay for. The gate doesn't keep unwanted people out its definitely more of a deterrent. People learn the codes for this "private community" as soon as they issue them out. And if they don't, you can just wait around until someone lets you in. Because you live in an apartment community, the repairmen are supposed to keep your place in tip top shape. WRONG. It can take from a couple days to a couple of weeks to hear a response and when they finally show up, they say "I need to go get 'necessary tools'". Are you kidding me? You show up without the right tools? Don't get me started on the water tank/ heater situation. Some days the water will be pipping hot and other days it'll be a putrid lukewarm. I cannot tell you how many times they've shut off the water and don't give you a notice (the same goes for reducing water pressure). They'll leave you in the dark for any major repairs and if they happen to issue a notice, then it is usually city mandated. The laundry mats are HORRID. Their filthy and dirty. Every machine has dog hair in it so if you are allergic stay far far away. Each time I wash, I end up with a new breed of dog on my clothing and not to mention since they've added "high efficiency" washers, you have to pay top dollar to get fur covered clothes back. For the amount of money you shell out, you can live in a nicer community and have a better experience. The amenities around here almost convinced me to stay but for the price you have to pay and all the crap you'll have to deal with, you're better off in a cardboard box.
