UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO OWNER: We have contacted the management office about this numerous times and have been told there is nothing we can do, there is no appeal process, and that we are forced to pay the ridiculous amount of money. In the one year of living here we had minimal to say about the complex, staff was nice, maintenance handled most of our issues, our only complaints were the lack of availability for the laundry room and the difficulty we had finding parking near our building. In the grand scheme of things these were small and tolerable problems. However, upon moving out we have a change of opinion. Not only are we not receiving our security deposit back but we are being charged almost an additional $200 on top of the $500 security deposit. They claim we had "damaged walls" that required $500 worth of repainting, mind you this was normal wear and tear (a scuff or two on the walls) as well as some holes from hanging things. Which we were told MULTIPLE times at the beginning of our move hanging stuff was ok and it was not considered to be damage. Well that was a LIE because they are now claiming any holes are considered damage and we have to pay for it. We wouldn't have hung anything up if we had known that prior. Not only are they claiming we damaged the walls and therefore have to pay the ENTIRE security deposit, but the additional charge was for professional cleaners. The issue here was that we asked AGAIN multiple times if we needed to hire professional cleaners and were told over and over we DID NOT as long as we cleaned it prior to leaving. So we sat and scrubbed the apartment for HOURS to make sure it was in the best condition possible. Just for them to charge us $100 for professional cleaners they "HAD TO" bring in. Again, if we had known they were bringing them in we would've looked for our own cleaning company that may have been cheaper, as well as not spent all the extra time scrubbing the apartment clean. The complete lack of proper communication and telling the tenants the incorrect information is absurd. We have photos and video proof of the apartment being in near perfect condition the day of our move out. We have never not received our full security deposit back from past apartment complexes we've lived at. We take care of the places we live and treat the apartments with respect and this is what we get at move out? Losing our $500 and owing $200 more on top of that? We are extremely dissatisfied and will NEVER recommend anyone to live here.
