I lived at Saybrook Pointe in unit 277, building 10 for over 3 years and I moved out on April 22, 2024. The bad: 1.) the management -- Camyll specifically, is the most negligent, non-communicative, non-responsive management I have ever encountered in my 10+ years of Bay Area apartment rentals. There is no way, seemingly ever, to get a hold of the leasing office/management. Texts, emails, phone calls go unanswered. I would send multiple follow up emails/texts/voicemails to no avail. The leasing office is only open like 2 or 3 days a week or something ridiculous, so showing up at the office usually didn't work either. Any concern I had was almost never addressed. For example, they were charging me for two parking spots even though we only needed one. This took close to 3 months to resolve due to management's non-responsiveness. I had a neighbor who literally had to withhold their rent payment in order to get Camyll's attention on a matter regarding putting their new roommate on the lease. Once Camyll reached out to threaten them with eviction, then and only then were they able to get her on the phone to have their concern addressed. If management communication is a priority for you, do NOT move here. 2.) the neighborhood -- extremely sketchy, being that it is a "mall neighborhood." We experienced multiple incidents while living here such as someone discharging a firearm in the parking lot, crackheads roaming the complex and screaming at all hours of the day and night, crackheads waiting by the gate for a resident to come home so that they could sneak into the complex, an unhoused/cracked out man assaulting and attempting to r*pe a teenage girl while she was walking home from school in broad daylight (incident was witnessed from my balcony. Myself and other neighbors of course intervened when we heard her screams and called the police. Police took the man into custody & the girl was escorted home by the police). Car break ins also common here, motorcycle theft, etc. 3.) shoddy construction/mold -- there was mold growing in my bathroom, specifically behind the bathtub due to poor construction, and when I brought up these concerns to Camyll she ignored me, of course. When I told her that by LAW she has to address mold concerns, she finally responded and sent maintenance out. They told me there was no mold and it was "only mildew." Well, my mold sickness (confirmed by lab testing) went away after moving out...so I do wish my concerns were taken more seriously. You could see and smell the mold and yet their answer was to simply re-caulk the bathtub 3 or 4 times. 4.) the electronic front door locks -- the electronic, keyless lockpads on every unit's front door are a huge pain. They were always malfunctioning or running out of battery life, leaving us stranded outside our apartment. I would prefer actual keys. 5.) the size of this complex -- I am not sure exactly how many units there are, but it must be in the several hundreds, with potentially 1,000+ residents. I realized after moving out that I'd never want to live in a complex this big again. The property management is severely understaffed at all times (see point #1) and you can really feel it. The good: 1.) the maintenance team -- they are run separately from the leasing office/property management team, and so the maintenance team is wonderful!! They are responsive, knowledgable, and communicative. Shoutout to German specifically who deserves a raise! The grounds are quite well maintained, too. 2.) the kitchens - modern, updated, nice kitchens. Rare at this price point in the South Bay! 3.) laundry rooms -- I like how laundry is in a separate room with a door you can close. Helps with the noise from the machines when you're trying to relax or watch tv in a small apartment! Most apartments have the laundry in the kitchen and you can't get away from the noise/have to have laundry stuff all over the kitchen. 4.) pet friendly - always a plus. 5.) the mailroom - they do have a secured package locker room and mailroom, requiring a key to get in, which is a plus.
