I signed a lease with Vista for a year, and was begging to get out of it by the ten months. First off, it is very overpriced for the location and the age of their apartments. The worst part was their TERRIBLE inability to handle any problems in a decent time period. We had to get our thermostats replaced TWICE because they were simply not working. My room mate and I lost hot water many times, and it would take days for them to fix it. I did not have heat working in my bedroom for 2 weeks, because they kept insisting that they would send someone and they never did. At one point in the winter, my thermostat CAUGHT ON FIRE (clearly there is a wiring problem). I called them when the office opened at 9. When I got back to the building at noon, I spoke to the office and they said no one had told them about it! My room mate and I are full time students and are rarely home during the day. Our heating bills during the winter ranged from 250-400 dollars! For a two bedroom apartment! They claimed it was because this winter was "exceptionally cold". Additionally, they have AC units that stick out of the building and during the winter, there is a brutal draft that comes in and makes the heat extremely ineffective. Also, a pipe burst during the winter, essentially turning the lobby into a lake, and because they have no maintenance people in the building, we had to wait hours for maintenance to come and turn off the alarm. This was an issue at least twice a month, in which an alarm would go off in the middle of the night, and we would have to wait up to 3 hours for a maintenance person to come and switch it off. Fire fighters did not have access to it. Also, one night when the alarm had been going over for 45 minutes, I decided to call 911 to see if they were coming, and the responder told me that no one had notified them of the fire alarm going off. Effectively, the buildingis extremely unsafe and has an inefficient emergency response. Additionally, it is not a smoke free building, and towards the end of my lease, the apartment below me smoked excessively and my apartment reaked of cigarettes. I told them it was impossible to live in and she said they would be in "air fresheners" in the vents. Two weeks later, it was still terrible, and she said "whoops, we actually just got the fresheners in and we will put it in". Currently, we have been moved out of the apartment for over 3 months and they have still not sent us our safety deposit. They are extremely inadequate in solving the countless issues that come with such an old building, and living there was one problem after another. I have told everyone I know to not live here because I would never want anyone to have to go through all the inconveniences that we had to deal with. Many residents I ran into had the same complaints and subsequently did not renew their lease.
