Detailed Information for Island Club Apartments

Exercise extreme caution when considering properties listed by the horrible company “AIR Communities” on rental platforms. While their promotional visuals might appear enticing, prospective tenants should be forewarned of a multitude of hidden fees. Beyond the baseline rent, there are significant charges for amenities such as parking, water, and mail services, which often require an additional subscription. The following are crucial observations derived from reviews by past tenants across multiple platforms. It is imperative that you review these insights meticulously to avoid potential regrettable experiences.

Here is 20 reasons why you SHOULD NOT! consider moving into Island Club Apartments:

  1. Misleading Leasing Information: Residents report being misled by leasing agents regarding parking and lease termination.
  2. Lack of Security: Absence of cameras and occurrences of theft and towing from private parking spots.
  3. Poor Maintenance Response: Slow response to urgent maintenance requests, such as flooding issues.
  4. Insufficient Amenities: Reports of broken gym equipment and spa, and poor maintenance of pool and gym areas.
  5. Infestation Issues: Complaints of roach infestations and poor pest control measures.
  6. Overpriced for Quality: Apartments are considered overpriced given the level of quality and size.
  7. Towing Practices: High frequency of towing vehicles, even for residents with parking stickers.
  8. Unresponsive Management: Difficulties in getting in touch with management and handling issues promptly.
  9. Water Supply Problems: Frequent water outages and poor communication regarding maintenance.
  10. Parking Issues: Inadequate parking solutions leading to overcrowding and additional fees.
  11. Unjustified Rent Increases: Residents feel rent hikes are not justified by the living conditions.
  12. Noise and Disturbance: Complaints about noise from tree removal and other residents.
  13. Unwelcoming Policies: Strict policies on guest parking and towing affecting resident satisfaction.
  14. Environmental Concerns: Problems with water quality and occurrences of flooding inside apartments.
  15. Construction Annoyances: Ongoing construction noise disrupting daily life for residents.
  16. Poor Value for Money: Additional and hidden costs increasing the financial burden on tenants.
  17. Problematic Renting Experience: Difficulties during move-in and throughout the tenancy, including roach infestations.
  18. Waste Management Issues: Frequent smells and sightings of waste, indicating poor cleanliness.
  19. Service Fees: Additional fees for services like parking, which do not meet resident expectations.
  20. Hidden Fees: Unexpected fees upon move-in and a lack of transparency about monthly charges.
  21. Unfair Treatment: Residents feel that the management does not treat them fairly or respect their needs.

It’s essential to keep these points in mind and possibly look for other rental options that provide not just a decent apartment but also a pleasant overall living experience.

You charge for every little thing when it comes to utilities. This is the 21st century when rent prices are higher than ever before and this management group only cares about the money. Would never rent for this company again. Also a mandatory charge that we have no option to opt out of for a smart home that is only linked to the front door and the thermostat. What a joke. I can do all of that from my phone for free yet you think it is ok to charge for it. Also the utility prices change from month to month with wild fluctuations even tho I was a single man living alone and spent most time time at work. Also you have to pay an additional 45$ to park there if you want a spot (no guest parking after 6pm) and they are serious about towing your car as well! Even if you have a parking pass and park in the open parking your car can still get towed. They also charge and energy fee for what you might ask? I don't know but it's 7-8$ a month! They charge for pest control yet a saw spiders everywhere. Dog poop everywhere and all the management does about it is send emails that they will fine you.

No wonder they keep sending reminders to write a review practically right after moving in. I would advise you to wait a few months at least!! I lived at Island Club Apartments from August 2021 - August 2023. I had an upstairs unit that was cute on the inside with high ceilings and updated appliances. The outside of the buildings and overall look of the place are rundown looking. The first subject of concern was how many times they turned the water off in my building within the first couple of months. It was like a every two-week thing - we'd get an email or letter to say the water would be off due to (a broken pipe or whatever else). I found that odd. In October, I came home one evening and noticed a water spot on the ceiling in the kitchen. I contacted maintenance and was informed that there was a "slow water leak in a pipe within the roof" - the project required them to demolition the wall that divided the kitchen from my bathroom! I just moved in a couple months prior, so you can imagine my frustration and alarm that so much was going on within a short period. I was displaced for a couple of nights because the fans were loud and I felt uncomfortable. I reached out Christy Arnold, the Property Manager about some compensation or discount on rent and she didn't respond for several days. Then when she did call me back, she claimed to have responded to me but reception was bad so that may have been why I never received it. Anyways, no credit to rent. Fast forward 9 months and we get new nightmare neighbors below us. These guys smoked weed openly (although Island Club claims to be a smoke-free community), and were extremely loud and obnoxious. They took only one complaint seriously and that's because other neighbors in the building across from us witnessed and heard how loud these guys were and how dismissive and disrespectful they were to me. Complaints about marijuana were ignored or I was told to call security to have a witness...OK, great. They did roof repair work and gave us 1 notice with an estimate of when the work would finish up. Unfortunately, the job was extended due to weather and other factors but the office neglected to notify tenants that they would continue to be abruptly surprised at 8AM with the sounds and vibrations of drills, fallen debris, people talking and footsteps above - for an additional 3 weeks! When I moved out, my final bill included DOUBLE the amount for painting and cleaning that I was told. If someone has lived in a unit for 2 years, isn't it necessary to do some refresh painting, anyway? One PLUS - the maintenance crew is always timely and nice! Sheesh, it was quite the experience living at Island Club Apartments. Good luck!

2 stars is simply for the office staff, they do their best.
