Detailed Information for Southstar Lofts

Exercise extreme caution when considering properties listed by the horrible company “AIR Communities” on rental platforms. While their promotional visuals might appear enticing, prospective tenants should be forewarned of a multitude of hidden fees. Beyond the baseline rent, there are significant charges for amenities such as parking, water, and mail services, which often require an additional subscription. The following are crucial observations derived from reviews by past tenants across multiple platforms. It is imperative that you review these insights meticulously to avoid potential regrettable experiences.

Here is 13 reasons why you SHOULD NOT! consider moving into Southstar Lofts:

  1. Communication Issues: There seems to be a significant lack of clarity and poor communication from the management. The property might give misleading information about unit availability and communicate primarily through texts.
  2. New Management Concerns: Since the new owners took over, there’s been an increase in charges for amenities that were previously included in the rent, such as package reception and storage locker space.
  3. Invasive Behavior: The management might enter your apartment without your knowledge or consent. Not only does this breach privacy, but some belongings might also be mishandled or even taken.
  4. Security Concerns: Instances of break-ins have been reported without appropriate response or action from the management.
  5. Hidden Charges: There may be unexpected penalties and hidden costs, such as cleaning fees, even when the apartment has been left clean.
  6. Unresolved Tenant Disputes: There are instances where the building management might favor one tenant over another, leading to unresolved conflicts and potential wrongful evictions.
  7. Poor Maintenance & Repairs: The quality of the apartments might not be up to standard, with reported problems like poorly done paint jobs, malfunctioning utilities, and slow response times for repairs.
  8. Change in Rental Conditions: The management might change rental terms after one has already committed or paid certain fees, leaving them in a compromised position.
  9. Parking Issues: There might be no parking available in the building, making it inconvenient for residents with vehicles.
  10. Temperature Control Problems: The heating and air conditioning systems seem unreliable, making living conditions uncomfortable, especially during extreme weather conditions.
  11. Poor Conflict Resolution: Disputes between roommates or with third-party guests may not be adequately addressed by the property manager, leading to potential safety and well-being concerns.
  12. Lack of Personal Touch: The move-in process might lack a human touch, with new tenants simply receiving a code and no personal reception or guidance.
  13. Overarching Concerns with Large Management Groups: This apartment building’s issues could be indicative of what happens when a large, impersonal management group takes over, leading to decreased accountability and responsiveness.

Given these points, it’s essential to conduct thorough research and consider all factors before making a decision to move into any apartment in Southstar Lofts

Was promised a $500 gift card at move in as an incentive to sign back in July. Have not received it yet and have been given the run around for months by management.

Was a decent place before new owners took over. Now they want to charge for ever that was in included in the remt. Receiving packages, storage locker space. When you give notice to move out be prepared for numerous texts and emails offering reduced rent to stay for another year. I asked to be taken off the list but the messages continued and also sent to my wife's phone. As we moved out I got call saying they went in out apartment without our knowledge to do a walk through while all our personal things were still in their. They also took a few of our things out of the apartment one they scratched put it in a employee hallway closet. Now we received a bill for $230 cleaning an apartment we left clean. I believe this is what happens when a big management group takes over. No accountability , no response to our emails.

1) After a 2AM break-in to my apartment (and bedroom, where I was sleeping. The intruder was stoned), management neither followed up nor called the police! 2) The new management company (2017) negated the arrangements I had made with the previous (Dranoff) company. They charged $1800 in penalties and made no attempt to reach the previous management for proof of my previous arrangements. They added a $250/month charge for storage, even though my original contract said no storage charge. I spent many hours on the phone with their corporate headquarters, who deferred to the local management, who said that only the local manager had authorization and discretion. Avoid at all costs.

I am looking for an apartment to move in August and I contacted them about a rental apartment unit. I saw the units, said I will think about renting the unit in the third floor. Then after 1 week, they texted back; I said I will rent the unit. The funny part starts at this point, they said they rented the third floor unit already and another unit is available to rent in July. I am wondering at this point if the unit I wanted is not available anymore and there is practically no units that can wait till August, why are you wasting my time by sending me text messages? Why such a communication cannot go through emails like any other non-urgent communication? If these people are so willing to waste my time before becoming my landlord, I can not imagine how entitled they would behave when I need them to fix a problem with my rental.

The worst experience ever renting an apartment: 1.- The conditions for renting changed like 3 times. And I had to accept them, because I have paid 500 for applying. They didn't tell me that they will change. They only tell you you have 3 days for rejecting and get your 500 back. 2.- No one is receiving you. They give you a code and that's it. 3.- The apartment floor was with white paint. And the painting the did it's not done well. A lot of marks on the wall, doors, etc. 4.- the WC is running , I made a request 3 days ago and I am still waiting for someone to come and fix it. 5.- no parking available in the building. 6.- The air conditioner stopped working and NO ONE is coming to fix it, we had 40's at night so I need the heating system. I am frozen. Try to find another place for living. This is a hell!!!

This is what luxury living, in Philadelphia, looks like. @southstarlofts has not formally requested my vacation of the premises; and, while I will happily leave, they’ve agreed to terminate my access to the building (per my roommate’s request), without a 30 grace period. An email was sent to both my roommate, AND the property manager inciting a response. No response has been received. So. This property, and the property manager, Anya Gajian, have sanctioned this wrongful eviction, per my roommate’s request. A roommate, of whom, allows a third-party guest to reside in the residence. A guest that has physically, and verbally assaulted me. Do NOT here.
