Horribly overpriced for an average apartment. Management is rude and unresponsive. Lived there for over two years. Happy to finally move out once lease was up. You can find better places to live for a lot less!
I did not end up living at CBC, so this is only a review of someone who wanted to lease with them. I was interested in leasing a studio apartment at CBC. I toured the property & was very happy. On the other hand, they would not allow me to view the actual apartment. Most locations allow you to view the apartment you actually want if you give the resident a 24 hour notice. Regardless, I loved the property & signed a lease about 2 months before the move in date. About a week after signing & putting down a deposit, my work told me they needed me to relocate to another state. I emailed the leasing agent & told her my circumstances. Even with the 2 month notice, they would not refund my $1,000 deposit or even a portion of it. Very shady because I know they found someone to take that apartment soon after I reached out to them. I even asked them if they were willing to keep that payment on record and I will use it when I move back to Minneapolis, their response was no. This all came off as very shady business practices. Stay away if you expect any type of customer service from an "luxury" apartment building. $1,000 in their pocket.
As good as the place looks when you first will look at it the worst it will get once you move in. Everyone is so nice when they want to rent this place because there is someone moving out of the place every week and it has nothing to do with the price of the place. It has everything to do with the management. They will make your life a living hell once you move in. Sure, most people who will read this review will think, ha just another idiot who did not like something and now complaining. I spent 5 years living there and every day the management will do something to piss you off. At the price they charge it should be much better service but do not expect anything once you move it. AND, try to re-new the lease 🙂 at least 15% increase. You will never get your deposit back no matter what you do. Go ahead and try your luck or do your own research. Good luck.
WARNING: if you rent one of these beautiful apartments...you can expect to lose your deposit and then some. I noted stains on the carpet when I moved in during the walk through and upon moveout I have been charged over $2000 to replace the carpet! After you move in, you can expect ZERO quality service from the management. Updating to reflect my thoughts after trying to finish the move out process. What. A. Freaking. Nightmare. I will never recommend this place to anyone. As I said in my original review I needed to move out due to work relocation, so my saintly mom helped out in squaring away everything that needed to be taken care of at Calhoun since I physically could not be there. The people who work in this leasing office are (mostly) unqualified to assist in the simplest of tasks and they are excruciatingly rude on top of it all. For starters - I asked that my parking space not be removed from my account so that my mom would be able to park there while she was at my unit that I would continue to have possession of until Sept 14th. A couple weeks after I left, my mom shows up & someone's in my parking spot. She goes to the office and after slew of confusion of why the parking spot was even removed from my account (after I explicitly told the "agent" multiple, multiple times that I would continue to pay for it) - turns out "oops, it was removed, I'm not sure what happened". So they offer another spot - someone's in it. Another spot - someone's in it. This happens THREE TIMES before they finally figure it out and get a spot my mom can use. Every time my mom went in there to notify them that the spot was again not available, they were rude. Ok, I get it, you don't want to waste your time mapping out/finding a parking spot every couple days and it's also an inconvenience for you - MAYBE you shouldn't have removed it from my account in the first place and the problem wouldn't exist. Fast forward to move out date - I confirm with someone in the Denver Amico office that someone will meet my mom around 11am to do a walk-thru and hand over keys. My mom takes personal time off from her job to get to this appointment and NO ONE helps her for FOURTY-FIVE MINUTES. A scheduled appointment, 45 minutes late, zero explanation or apologies. She gets more attitude from the lovely ladies in the office and the run around on who's going to do the walk-thru. A maintenance guy finally does the walk-thru with my mom and she said he was the nicest guy - so props to you, maintenance man. They were always super nice & liked my cat, so that's one decent thing. Another two weeks later, I get a call from the same Amico properties office based here in Denver that there's a balance on my account! What?! I paid my Sept rent & handed over my keys, no one said anything about outstanding balance since the appointment. So, since the guy who called only has limited access to my account and can't tell me what the actual balance is for, he tells me to call the property. I call, get put on hold while they try and transfer me to the property manager. No answer, so I was given her direct line to call and talk to Marcie. No answer on her line, I left her a message asking her to call me as soon as possible so talk about what the balance is. I have YET to hear back from ANYONE on what this is. I'm not paying it just for funsies, so I'll let it sit there until someone can get it together and call me back. What a lovely property.
DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!! Our experience during the 3 years at the Beach Club has been a great experience. It was our first place for me and my boyfriend to move into. We took great pride in joy in our apartment. Now let me get to the reason with the one star. Upon moving out, we received our last invoice. We are getting totally taken advantage of by Air communities. We are not getting our deposit back and owe $800 for paint?! When I tell you that our apartment has wear and tear, it's because we lived in it for 3 years and raised a puppy (which we have paid our fair share of fees to have) it has some paint chips, some grim on the walls because our air filters were not changed out, and some flooring that obviously needs to be cleaned. But to owe $800 on top of not getting our $1500 back. We are totally getting taken advantage of and the only thing air communities is offering 25% off the bill. They obviously know they are in the wrong if they are offering the "discount". I warn you!!!! DO NOT MOVE TO THIS APARTMENT!!!!!! You will be severely disappointed when it comes to moving out. Such a buzz kill.
Very disappointed with the over advertisement, but lack of amenities that can be shared with a resident's guests. The parking situation with pre purchasing vouchers and having them expire forcing my guests to also have to pay on exit is unacceptable. Not reimbursing me for the vouchers or my guests for their parking is rude. Blaming it on a separately managed parking through another tenant (Allied Parking) or the lack of guest passes to the health club because it is also leased to separate management is a cop-out and a very convenient way for Aimco and the property management to justify zero attempt at satisfaction in a grievance. Great location, nice unit, and prestigious aura from the outside looking in, but terrible experience once the lease is signed. I hate to leave negative reviews, but this did not live up to expectations. The automatic requests for a property review in the first weeks of living here must artificially inflate the review score because my opinion seemed to be the consensus. Residents bond over complaints or don't interact with each other at all from my experience.
I have waited way too long to write a review, but I have to because I have tried to communicate/email what I can but I can't get anywhere with Liz or her boss, Carole. They are not the easiest people to communicate with. They are both negative/shoot down *any* possibility to create a solution. Recently, an email was sent out there will no longer be grills on one side of the building, pets are not allowed on the courtyard where the other grills are. SO in summer, I can't enjoy the last perk left of this place. I replied and asked management to reconsider and they said no, and the new grills have yet to be delivered. NO DOG FACILITIES! No wash area or unleashed area. There is ample underutilized space to have *something*. This is the only apartment block with nothing for dogs. -Fans are always drying something -Supposedly mold in apartments??? (people have gotten sick and have moved out) -Landscaping is sad and the retaining wall is always falling apart (great first impression to new tenants) -Only one working tennis court, they have two, and now it is also a pickelball court -Gym is closed to the public, fine, but the amenities we used to have: aerobic classes, trainers, sauna, steam room, hot tub, yoga room, Pilates reformers - all gone for residents -Outdoor pool might work, might be cleaned, might be warm, might not -DJ/events gone -Things being stolen, cars being broken into... -There are other issues but for safety reasons I'll leave it offline I was contacted to email corporate but they removed my other review - they will not change - I am waiting for a response
It's always one thing after another with this place. I only lived here for a year and this is everything that happened in that year. For starters, our dryer broke two separate times, once being broken for three weeks. Our ice machine broke three different times causing standing water in our apartment. We lost all water pressure in our apartment three different times. Our garbage disposal broke twice. The gym ceilings leak. The hot tub and sauna do not work and they do not plan on fixing them. Upon moving out we were charged $2,400 for leaving our apartment in amazing conditions. The management is awful and couldn't care less about their residents. These apartments look nice but they are FAR from being "luxury". Live anywhere else for this price.
Great location but for the price you pay no luxury. We have been experiencing 3 issues no air conditioning, sink backing up with other people's drain filth, and the dryer exhaust from all the above units venting into ours. We went to a resident event and found a lot of similar complaints. Don't be fooled by the beautiful view there is probably something with the same view that is cheaper and has better amenities.
Nothing "luxury" about this place. The place has constant water issues and as a result is FULL OF MOLD, (see photos). It is NOT a controlled access building with literally no security as the front doors are open every day. Filthy garage is frequently broken into, bikes stolen regularly. Tons of hidden charges for Luxer, electricity and dog deposit/rent. The building is supposedly for sale so corporate Mgmt has cut all budgets and could care less about the health and safety of their residents. One star for nicest maintenance guys...and awesome residents who remain.
Do not live here. It is a terrible place. You will not get any of your money back. They try to gouge you for anything they can. I understand the Beach Club seems to be struggling, but they should not take it out on their tenants. If you ever move out they will screw you. Liz may be the most rude person I've ever encountered. She talked to me like I am a child and understand nothing. Also, definitely live here if you like an unsecure parking ramp that anyone can walk into, break into your car, steal your bike, etc. Amenities are closed whenever they feel like it. I would not have lived here if it weren't for the ameninties and they weren't available half the time. The amenities were not kept up. Water leaking from the ceilings... was not fixed for several weeks. Had an issue with the bath tub almost the entire time I was living there and told the front desk several times and no one seemed to care... the day I moved out they came to fix it though! Overall, I wouldn't live there again if my life depended on it.
The elevators are always broken in the vintage building, the weddings are exceptionally loud and often go past 2am, the hot tub and sauna are broken with no intent on fixing them, the gym ceiling is leaking, mold everywhere. I'm pretty sure they have started charging a service fee for the mold "included" in our unit. Great place to live if you enjoy living in squalor.
I'm going to preface this by saying I do not write bad reviews, however, I would be cautious if considering The Beach Club after my experience. I moved in July 2020 to a unit with an AC unit that was out. I was on the top floor in the updated one bedroom apartment. This issue wasn't addressed for weeks. I stayed at a friend's some nights because the apartment was unbearably hot. That same unit had a broken washer, I had the maintenance team come three separate times before they fixed it. It ruined clothes and I did my laundry at work for that month. The second unit I moved into had a broken dryer. It took a month and a half to fix. My water pressure in my shower went out three times in a month, clearly each time it wasn't being fixed. We had issues with our fridge and freezer leaving my apartment with standing water. Both apartment units were the "new and updated" units. My neighbor across the hall broke her lease when I first moved because she didn't feel safe. She said her first unit was broken into and they moved her to the top floor. She installed a ring camera and one night saw someone had snuck into the building and was trying to see what doors were unlocked. Current and previous residents would agree that the management is terrible. Paying a certain amount in rent should come with attentive management that actually cares. I stayed because the gym is really nice. The gym also has water that has leaked through the roof since I moved in July 2020. The amenities they list aren't offered and haven't been since COVID. There isn't a working sauna, there are no work out classes. I had a friend who lived there and had her catalytic converter stolen TWICE. I still don't know if there are cameras but there has been so many break ins in the parking garage. The garage door stays open for so long anyone could walk in and clearly has. They haven't done anything about it. Another friend of mine states she had mold growing into her apartment as did her neighboring apartments. Be aware that the utilities you pay are extremely high, you are paying the building's utilities as well. My average utilities with parking and pet rent added up to at least $800 extra. This doesn't include my cable and internet or energy. On top of that, my move out statement was $2407, so I owed an extra $900 on top of the $1500 security deposit. When I inquired about the fees, the GM said she would return our call and never did. A customer service agent called to collect and we explained the situation to her. She said she would call us back and never did. I wouldn't recommend this apartment building, there are so many other nice apartments around this area. I moved to another apartment on the lake and the management has been incredible.
We've been living here for a year and a half now. We love the amenities and the residents - the strong sense of community (lots of expats) is the reason why we're staying and not leaving. BUT We have strong concerns regarding the lack of security in this building. Twice we've had visitors on our patio furniture that woke us up when we were asleep at night (playing with our daughter's toys, staying on our chairs, swimming/screaming in the fountain). Two of our best friends (two separate incidents) had their tires stolen in the garage yesterday and today respectively. We've seen people being escorted by the cops in the morning... I've found poop all over the pool one morning (after seeing a group of teenagers we'd never seen before hanging out and leaving by the street gates...) what will the next thing be? We moved here because we thought it was safe but clearly it isn't.
When you apply, even before you're approved, they require a $1,000 deposit. After submitting my application I was denied in less than 15 min. No problem. However after a week they're still holding on to the $1,000 deposit. The $1,000 deposit is on top of an application fee. I've lived in 4 different states and never seen a practice where you're asked to deposit a hold BEFORE you're approved. Even so, it shouldn't take a week to get a refund for an application that was denied in less than 15 min.
Looks great on the outside/ lousy on the inside. Plenty of exceptionally nice, brand new luxury apartments in the area. This property is owned by Aimco and they don't care about your complaints. The Calhoun Beach Club has fired 4 General Managers of this property in the last 4 years. That is a direct sign of how mismanaged this property is. Security - I would question if you are safe. I had my window smashed out of my car and my brief case stolen while my car is parked in the parking garage. I have had my new 4 place bike rack stolen and many other things. Police have been to the property many times in the last couple of years. The tower apartments are the newer section on the East side of the property. BUILT IN THE LAST 10 YEARS. These have had building leaks, many hot water issues, smelly water, and they have the cheapest washer/dryer, appliances, etc. The West building section is the original section and these are much better quality but no outside balcony. I have lived here 4 years and the treatment has increasing gotten worse. My rent has sky rocketed and you will pay over $3000/month for 1000 sq ft. You can do so much better elsewhere. I wish they appreciated long term tenants but they don't. Its ashame but they force people out by raising your rent on every renewal. They try for a 17% increase each time, so plan ahead. If you are streatching your budget when you move in, you won't be able to afford your next renewal. If you are thinking of moving in here be certain to ask for the detailed form for vacating and what they take from your security deposit. This will be a shock.

Very, in fact horribly, over priced for what you get. I toured this placed recently and thought they were kidding at first. Based on prices, they REALLY need to look at their comps closer and get a reality check.
Be warned of hidden fees! I have lived in many apartments not even my college slums were as ruthless as this place! The sales staff hides a lot of information from you, and if they say anything make sure you get it in writing! They have a very complicated electrical breakdown. You do not just pay electricity for you apartment, you pay for the whole building. They take a flat 20% off of the total bill and you are responsible for the rest. We had a water main break on the top floor and all the electricity used to pay for the repairs were paid by the tenants. We moved to Elan and love it here! Be warned!
I'm disappointed to have to leave a review like this but have decided hopefully some of these more honest reviews will help future residents have a more positive experience. I moved into The Beach Club nearly 6 years ago, at that time it had a long list of great amenities that influenced the decision to move in. Systematically, using many different excuses, most of them have been removed and will not return, to name a few: tennis court, sauna, steam room, gym classes, gym attendants, towel service, pool social every Saturday and I cannot remember the last social event organised. The removal of amenities has not been compensated for as the management company say these are not part of the lease, and can remove them anytime they want. In addition, the building is full of mold and now has some very serious security issues that are putting residents safety at risk. There's a lot of choice out there, take a look before you sign.

This place sucks!!!!! I do not recommend anybody to live here, the management is horrible, they will ruin your life, make life miserable.. Stay away from them.. I am serious... Do not say I did not warn you. The management is horrible, particlulary the manager named Jerome.. I know at least 30 people moved out because of management. People do not know so they think the location is perfect, and they move in, and then they move out within a year, nobody stays.. The location is great, but it is not worth to deal with this nonsense management team... Make sure at least you ask around and ask current residents about the building before you move in.
Your automated system to schedule tours is appaling.
Absolutely do not live here. Trust me. just stay clear of this place.
The property is poorly managed, security is often breached, and the units have appliances that constantly break. It should not be a destination for residency if you're looking for safety and/or luxury.
There is a stupid low person work in the valet parking in your club . He is not related to the human at all
Well, guess why I'm writing??? That's right, no hot water again! I believe that makes it the seventh time in eight months. When I talked with the manager a couple of weeks ago, he said that each time it has gone out it has been a unique problem. Who knew that many things could go wrong on a hot water heater??? BTW...the person from the management company that responds to these reviews never follows up to contact me nor does anyone else.
I was interested in this building because it's located next to the lake, but I had the worst experience with scheduling office and leasing consultants. I just applied on their webpage for a virtual or in person tour. The scheduling office sent me 33 emails in 24 hours (I am not joking!), asking unnecessary questions and then confirming the virtual appointment time 4 times with me. I took an hour off from my job to be able to attend the virtual tour. 30 minutes before the tour, they re-scheduled my tour and pushed it forward 1 hour. I took another hour off from job to be able to make it. I logged in on time and waited for 20 minutes. Nobody was there! I contacted the scheduling person and asked about the delay. She asked me to wait for 30 more minutes. I said I am not interested anymore and her answer was " OK, thank you for your time!". I didn't even get an apology from her. Fortunately, there are plenty of other buildings in this area.
I appreciate the friendly efforts of Maintenance Team members to turn the temperature in my apartment up from 66 degrees to 70 degrees but their efforts did not fix the problem. Still a high of 66. PLEASE come again this Monday morning January 22 to try again to fix this problem. Thank you. Kay Wallace (#1931)
Delivering food was not a great experience. First off signs in the drive thru will indicate you need to park in the parking ramp. Concierge was friendly but didn't even offer a parking voucher to leave the property. Parking ramp payment machine barely works. I tried three different credit cards and none of them worked. I called the support line and they said I needed to pay after I explained to them I was just there for a delivery. Finally after talking to a second person they let me out of the ramp. The whole ordeal took about 20 minutes. I shouldn't have to pay to be in a parking ramp as a guest for just a few minutes. First time encountering such an ordeal.
I enjoyed the location, however traffic is painful. When signing your lease, look at the other reviews and be prepared, because there will be a 25% rent increase to renew your lease, this is why I left. Also, I was on the SE corner and didn't like the road noise from Lake St and views of the dirt parking lot from my east-facing balcony; there is a $1500 "CONVENIENCE fee" to change apartments. I had multiple issues: dishwasher, washing machine, and flooding from conditioning vent. Enjoyed the food/drink service at the pool, delivery of dry cleaning and packages, and the covered parking, but would not choose this particular building again for the price.
The Calhoun Beach Club at 2900 Thomas Ave. S, Minneapolis MN, 55416. If you live here you will be extremely disappointed. They will steal you Amazon packages, bait and switch you on the apartment you view compared to the one they will stick you in. This may be fine if the average rent is $700/mo but the apartments here are not cheap. A 1000 Sq ft 2 bedroom is $2900 and they go as high as $11,000.00 per month for a 4000 sq ft apartment. I looked at this apartment and the appliance were just as outdated as the ones in my apartment. The security here is a joke. My neighbor in 1511 had he and his wife's 2 Trek bicycles stolen during the day and they didn't do a thing for them. This place has virtually no security. They have 1 person scheduled at a time. They leave the parking garage doors open all day most days of the week as well as the door into the building. Welcome to all the Twin City criminals. My neighbor was assaulted, choked and broken into his apartment by someone that walked right in, knocked on his door, hid, then when he opened his door, this person forced in. People that live here are professionals that drive very nice automobiles. The criminals must be well aware due to the fact that people have consistently had their cars broken into. Hard to believe but as I said, 1 security officer for 2 buildings, 2 pools, fitness center, and 300+ apartments. I had another neighbor had the tail lights stolen out of her Range Rover...God Bless. The appliances are ancient and something of a joke. These are the cheapest clothes and dishwasher you have ever seen. I have attached pictures of the lousy job the dishwasher does as well as the construction noise that has gone on for over a year with absolutely no end in sight. The water out of the tap is very dirty of which I have attached as well. Don't bother complaining to the headquarters in Denver because nothing will happen except they will try to make your life miserable for complaining. This property has had 4 General Managers in 2 years. Why? Apparently the old saying is true...pay your managers peanuts, you get monkeys. Please do not move in here without talking with the people that live here. Better yet, check their reviews. I should have done this before committing. I looked at their reviews online the other day and saw bad reviews extending back to 2003. This made me feel a little better knowing I am not the victim, just one of the victims.

Not safe! Great bones but not safe and horrible management. Leasing agents use bait and switch tactics and corporate agency Aimco in Colorado backs their practices. For example, the amenities such as the Gym, Sauna, and and Pool are not really part of your lease agreement and there is no adjustments if they are not working or open. Security is a huge issue, cars get broken into all the time in the parking garage along with catalytic converters being stolen but management refuses to take responsibility. Loud weddings and events go on until 2am multiple times a week on the vintage side when leasing said they shut music down at 10-11pm. Furthermore, random wedding guests wander through the building late at night not to mention homeless people shower and use the gym. Recommend going to the Lake Haus next door as they are in the same great area but much safer and honest.
Stayed here for a year Aug 22 to Jul 23. It's has it's good and bad sides but it's just the bills they blindside you with. Anything they quote you expect to pay 15-20% more. There are lots of maintenance issues. While maintenance works hard to keep up with it, but it's hard to keep up.
I've lived at the beach club for the last 4.5 years and have enjoyed it, it's a great place for the traveling professional and the athletic club staff are very personable. Pros - - Athletic club and pool are a great bonus, elevator down to a gym in the winter is a significant bonus - The upgraded apartments on the vintage side are very nice (I had a view of the Lake) - Urban Eatery is also pretty solid (definite upgrade from the View) - Dry cleaning and packages are delivered to your apartment which is pretty nice Cons - AIMCO (the management company), this is the reason I'm not giving this 4 stars, they are trying to nickel and dime residents. *** ALSO MAKE SURE TO NEGOTIATE EVERYTHING IN THE CONTRACT, I MISSED THE RELET FEE OF 200%, IT SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN 100%*** - Once you're a resident, you can expect a battle to keep your rent down, mine increased 13% over 4 years and that's after doing significant market research to counter the initial increases that were proposed - There is no recycling program - The windows on the vintage side to not have screens, given the wasps that inhabit the upper levels In the end, I really liked living there, but the management doesn't value resident relationships. If money is of no concern to you, then this is a great place for you. Best, Matt
We have lived here for about a year and they have maintained some of the unique qualities of why we were attracted to CBC, but are starting to lose some of their appeal, thus the mass exits from long standing residents PROS: The workout facility is amazing! Classes, personal trainers, updated equipment, an indoor pool , jacuzzi, and steam room which is great during the winter. The locker rooms need to be updated and the tanning beds never work, but the staff and other amenities at the health club facility more than make up for it. They deliver packages to your apt. And your dry cleaning on a daily basis. That is a great perk. Covered parking, but getting a "good" spot is always a challenge. It is a hit or miss thing. The security is on staff 24/7 but I believe they are sold as a concierge service. They are friendly and helpful. Their is new management so cannot comment because of the high turnover of the staff. Half of the apartments do have views of either the lake or the city, which is nice. In the complex is Sash salon and Urban eatery which is a frequent dining and hair salon for most residents...both are awesome CONS: The price of the apartments are much higher than any other place in Minneapolis. They bank on the location, but the units are very dated with basic bathrooms and kitchens and tile that is 20 years old. You pay for the view and not the interior of the units. Unhappy staff and people turnover like crazy. A disgruntled atmosphere among employees. Constant rule changes and cost increases occurring that are driving long term and newer residents away. COST driven management that is at the expense of the residents.
Decent basic bar food
I lived here for 1 year. Pros: The gym, location, and apartments. All of these things are pretty good - maintained well enough, updated well enough, etc. Cons: This might be wordy but I'll try to edit. My move-in wasn't great. They overcharged me a bit and I've never gotten a refund. Which is fine. It's just money, right? Any attempt to make contact about my move-in deal or other apartment issues went completely ignored and I just gave up. Because math is also hard to explain to this team and you know, the value of my time started to outweigh the costs of just over paying. Case in point: They ALSO TRIED to overcharge me a month when I moved out. Because again, math is hard. But this time, I fought hard enough to have that money refunded. Just an FYI - landlords are LEGALLY bound to return your security deposit in the state of Minnesota 3 weeks after you move out. In my case, I got my security deposit 10 weeks after I moved out. CBC was 7 weeks past their LEGAL date of return. Furthermore, I only received my deposit after I asked about it multiple times. I think if I had never followed up, they would have just kept the money. I mean, what's $1K, right? We are ALL such rich people, right? I also had a mail forwarding issue for months after I left with CBC because they told me they would work with USPS to set up my mail forwarding so I didn't have to. And then they didn't and told me they never could. So, I also really appreciate miscommunication and reneging on agreements. Other complaints mentioned that are also worth mentioning again - guests of residents don't have good parking options and can't use the gym like in other buildings. Also, cars in the parking garage were broken into at least 4 different times over the course of my stay here. Case in point: it's fine. You don't exactly get what you pay for because you might end up paying a lot but some of the pros about the neighborhood are enough to overlook some heartburn experienced.
I probably wouldn't have written a review for this place if it wasn't for the fact that I moved out almost 4 months ago and I'm still dealing with them! It's like a bad rash - can't seem to fully get rid of it. I lived here for 1 year. Okay. Pros: The gym! It's great in almost every respect - good classes, good facilities, (mostly) friendly staff. Membership is included with your rent. Annddd it's connected to the apartments which is fantastic. CBC is also next to the lakes. So that's great for the 5 months it's safe to go outside. And the apartments are beautiful. They've put a lot of work against most of the units and it's nice. BUT some CONS: This might be wordy but I'll try to edit. First of all, my move-in wasn't great. In order to receive a supposedly "fleeting" deal of 6 weeks free, I was asked to start my lease almost 2 weeks earlier than I needed to. Which wasn't ideal - but I was told left and right that if I didn't start my lease at the time they told me to, the deal would *absolutely* go away. Plot twist: it didn't! In fact, 2 days after I actually moved in, they changed the deal to 2 months free. So, for those of you doing the math, I essentially paid for an extra month I didn't need to pay for (2 weeks earlier than needed start date + additional 2 weeks free rent when the deal changed from 6 weeks to 2 months). Which is fine. It's just money, right? Who needs it! Apparently not me because I was obviously funding a responsive building management team, right!? Ha- no. Any attempt to make contact about my move-in deal or other apartment issues went completely ignored. Let me be clear - CBC got a new building manager Summer 2018 and she is fine; she is responsive, accessible, nice enough. BUT when I moved in and for the first 1/2 year of my time at CBC, the building manager straight up said to me after I spent 2 days tracking him down, "My hours are 9 or 10 to 4 on weekdays only. No weekends. I also hate answering the phone and never reply to emails." Nice. Ideal for avoiding his working residents, right? His boss was also never responsive (hi Gail!) so it might be a systematic problem in their corporate culture. Or just their version of problem solving - out of sight, out of mind. I've also had guests at CBC and I'm not really trying to start anything - but there is a woman at CBC who has treated every one of my guests she's met quite rudely. She actually asked my friend once, "Why are you sitting in this lobby if you aren't looking to rent an apartment?" Not sure what I did to her, but there's that too. I've since moved out for professional reasons although I could obviously make a case for residential reasons too. Moving out was a pain and I'm still apparently doing it. I was charged for time I didn't live at CBC because sometimes math is hard for them. They require a 60 day notice. I gave them exactly 63 days. I don't know - I guess days are hard to count out because I was still charged for an extra month past my move out. And when I tried to fix that, I was then charged for an extra week I didn't need. Which was then fixed to like, 3 days I didn't need. I mean. Why not? Again, it's just money. It then took them more than 2 months after I moved out to mail me my deposit check. But only after I asked for it a few times. I bet if I never asked, I would never have gotten it. Finally, I was told that CBC could work with USPS for my mail forwarding. And I distinctly remember asking about this just to make sure I didn't need to do anything with USPS. What's weird is I filled out about 3 different forms for them with my address and confirmed it via email. I've just been told last week that CBC "does NOT handle mail forwarding" and I am greatly mistaken. So that's nice too. I'm not sure what I was doing with all those forms and time spent confirming things but it's always great to know that I was engaging in useless but effort-filled work. There was some international mail already on the way when I left that I was hoping to have forwarded but I guess I'll never know now. Other complaints mentioned on Yelp are also worth mentioning again - guests of residents don't have good parking options and long term guests can't use the gym. Some mistakes made but when I commented on them they were fixed. Apt could not be slept in for a week, Still waiting to get rent credit
I've always had amazing maintenance service at the Beach Club and I appreciate the team, however, my building keys slipped down the elevator shaft. I requested maintenance to help retrieve them as I could not reach them. I have an Apple AirTag attached to the keys so I can currently see the location of my keys on my iPhone and the location is pinging the elevator. Within 24 hours, I received a text saying my keys couldn't be found and in order to get keys, I would have to pay $55 to get a new set. I really had no choice because I need to get into my building. I'm disappointed that the keys are still there (notifications from my AirTag continue to specify the location) and I had to pay for a new set. This isolated issue has been unfortunate, so at this point, I'm not satisfied with this particular maintenance response.
Expensive for what you get...you pay for the whole building's amenities. Appears to always have a leak and the main floors frequently smell moldy. There is minimal dog amenities...they could easily put in a fence in the back area to make an off leash area. Gym only open until 10 so not a great situation if you work nights and no sauna/steam room open. Issues with the garage door frequently allow anyone access to the cars. Minimum resident appreciation, no free breakfasts, all things that are offered in most uptown apartments. Maintenance and cleaning has been amazing. Front desk staff very pleasant. The lake view cannot be topped! Wish they took a little bit of time to make things nicer for what we pay!
